Conference description

Decades of research and investment in Europe have demonstrated some key drivers and mechanisms for improving standards in schools. Each country has its own examples of excellent, leading edge schools producing impressive results. However, a fundamental challenge remains - the mainstreaming gap.

This strategic conference for 150 invited delegates will look at the challenges involved in up-scaling and mainstreaming innovative teaching and learning practice in order to make every classroom a future classroom. Join senior policy makers from 30 Ministries of Education, decision shapers in regional authorities and teacher educators from across Europe in a debate on:

• The initial results from the iTEC project, a flagship initiative that has evaluated innovative scenarios and learning activities for the future classroom in over 2,000 classrooms across 18 countries.
• How 17 Ministries of Education in iTEC along with other project partners are starting to mainstream the results of this project.
• Scalable processes for the adoption of advanced competencies by teachers, 21st century skills for learners and change management for schools.
• A systemic approach to ensuring that school innovation and advanced teaching practices can be adopted and exploited by all European schools.

iTEC Magazine - Designing the future clasroom

Video interviews

Kristen Weatherby, Senior Analyst on the OECD's TALIS project (Teaching and Learning International Survey), speaks on emerging trends in teaching and learning, such as Bring Your Own Device and the use of social media in education. Her keynote presentation is available here: Challenging visions of the future classroom. 

Patricia Manson, Head of Unit for Inclusion, Skills & Youth at the European Commission's DG Connect, was interviewed by European Schoolnet at the iTEC 'Every Classroom a Future Classroom' event about developments in technology that will shape the future of education, and about the EC's initiatives for opening up education.

Gill Leahy, Head of European Teaching and Learning Consultants, Promethean, and Maria Florenzano, Head of Education at Innova&Educación, speak about the role that technology will play in developing scenarios for the future classroom.

Peter Claxton is Senior Manager for Educational Policy & Practice with SMART Technologies, one of the educational technology providers that are partners in the iTEC project.

 

Niel McLean, formerly Head of the NFER's Futurelab project, now Head of Education at eSkills UK, speaks on how the huge increase in access to information brought about by the Web 2.0 is changing the dynamic between teacher and pupils.
